How do you get a group of people who can’t speak to talk for 90 minutes? It is all in the preparation. Every workshop session of The Other Option had homework to do in advance. Responses could be read if someone couldn’t respond in real time. Everyone was called upon, so nobody was skipped, but anyone could pass. Supporters were asked not to fill in the silence. We maintained a google group where members and supporters could post questions, thoughts, or pictures of their favorite people, places, and activities.
